Conservative Party Holds National Convention This Month

The Conservative Party, a fairly new nationally-organized party, will hold its first national convention in New Orleans on July 22-24.  Emphasis will be on writing the party’s platform.  See the party’s web page here for more information.  The convention will be at Loew’s New Orleans Hotel.

Conservative Party Holds National Convention This Month — 7 Comments

  1. Here we go again. Another party of the “right.” More egos to float around. We’ve got the Constitution Party, the America’s Independent Party, the American Party, the Reform Party, the Prohibition Party, and umpteen dozen other so-called “conservative” or “rightist” parties, but that ain’t enough. No, we need to split up the “rightwing” vote even more.

When will these folks ever learn? If they wanted to start a “coalition” of some type and work to get all the above mentioned parties to cooperate, then yes, it might be a well-worth effort. But the “big frogs in little pond” leaders of these other parties ain’t gonna give up one ounce of their rule. And then, there are those doctrinal purists who insist you must cross your “t’s” and dot your “i’s” just the way they do, or you’re a fraud and and phoney.

Dream on, Conservative Party folks. Dream on!

  2. You forgot the America First Party. But then again, so have I and 99.9999% of anyone else whose ever heard of them.

  3. Thanks, Jeff Becker. I could not think of the American First Party by name, and this is why I used the term “umpteen” to cover those I had left out. I’m sure there are still more who are miffed because I didn’t mention their party by name and could “salivate” by seeing their party name in print.

Still, my point stands. If these folks had any real political savvy, they would be trying to bring all these parties into a “coalition” but I’ve already described why this probably won’t happen. Have a good day!

  4. Very curious: on the national website and the half dozen or so state websites I visited (state websites are just copies of the national with the state name inserted at the top), there is not a single person listed. No named leadership – not one person in any state; no people at the national level. We’ve been don the 3rd party path sooo many times and now someone has launched a group with the magic word “conservative” but they can’t tell us who they are. That’s no way to attract experienced veterans or even bright new activists.

  5. I wouldn’t compare these other “parties” with the Constitution Party. The Constitution Party, the Green Party and the Libertarian Party are all legitimate political parties, though, of course at this time, still much smaller than Democrats and Republicans.

The rest of the groups mentioned above are really nothing more than websites. As far as the “Conservative Party” is concerned, time will tell.
Actually bring people physically together and meeting is a start, but it takes much more than that. Several of the socialist oriented parties, for example, do that much, but they really aren’t legitimate national political parties.

If they get off the ground and truly compete in a legitimate way, more power to them. The more the merrier. Everyone should be represented in the political system if possible, rather than being stuck in a tent you don’t like.

Viva proportional voting and many parties representing many people! Maybe more people would vote and less would feel totally disaffected.

  6. Gary, normally I find you and I on the same side of most issues. But I have to somewhat disagree with your suggestion of “best wishes” to the Conservative Party. Yes, they have a right to exist and attempt to be successful, but don’t you realize every member they enlist, is one less member for the Constitution Party? And if they do get a candidate on a state ballot somewhere – where the CP is also listed – don’t you know that each vote “won” by the Consevative Party is most likely one vote that might have otherwise went to the CP candidate?

They are not enough of us as it is. Why are you encouraging folks to split the “constitutionalist, conservative, Christian, patriotic vote any more than it is?
