In all likelihood, on May 5, 2011, British voters will vote on this question: “Do you want the United Kingdom to adopt the ‘alternative vote’ system instead of the current ‘first past the post’ system for electing Members of Parliament to the House of Commons?”

Is this different in any way from IRV as it would be called in the US?
It’s the same thing.
Having Alt.V./IRV in the U.K. regime will only raise the minority rule gerrymander control percentage from about 25 percent (due to the 3 larger parties) to about 30 percent (as in the U.S.A. gerrymander regimes) —
about 60 percent winners in a bare majority of the gerrymander districts.
The U.K. MPs will then become even more arrogant and powermad with their Alt.V/IRV manufactured majorities — just like the gerrymander MONSTERS in the U.S.A. House of Reps.
Reducing the number of gerrymander districts makes it even easier to have minority rule regimes = TOTAL EVIL — for which the Brit party hacks are infamous.
