According to this Denver Post story, there is a fair chance that former Republican Congressman Tom Tancredo will become the American Constitution Party’s candidate this year for Governor of Colorado. The Constitution Party affiliate in Colorado is called the American Constitution Party. It is ballot-qualified.
Tancredo is more famous than most former members of the U.S. House, because he ran for President in the early Republican presidential primaries in 2008. When he ran for President, he emphasized the issue of illegal immigrants more than any other issue. Thanks to Taegan Goddard’s PoliticalWire for the link.
Here is another Denver Post story, on the legality of Tancredo’s candidacy. Colorado law lets each qualified political party decide for itself whether to nominate candidates who, in the past, were members of another party. The American Constitution Party’s bylaws say that past affiliation is not relevant, if two-thirds of the party state committee agree to let the candidate run. The American Constitution Party’s state committee has already voted to accept Tancredo’s nomination. The party’s original gubernatorial nominee, Benjamin Goss, has also agreed to withdraw in favor of Tancredo. Thanks to Jason Miller for that link.

I am really concern about this, I support Tom Tancredo entirely, but as it stands I think this is going to cause more confusion. I have worked the polls for years and people are really confused when they go into the voting machines and I am concern they might vote incorrectly because he has been a Republican. The Republican Party needs to ask Scott McGinnis to step down, all he is doing is hurting the party, although it might be too late because he is already on the primary ballot and they have been mailed. This is a very serious situation that has to be looked upon taking in consideration and training the voters. Some people vote just on the party line without checking the candidate which might cause a loss in votes for Mr. Tancredo.
I am worried about the direction our country is headed one day our note to China will come due and would we still be The United States of America?
God Bless Our Country !
Congratulations on wanting to impeach President Obama, it’s long overdue. Obama is a traitor to the value’s. traditions, and history of the Constitution of the United States of America.
It would be interesting to see how the vote would turn out. Most former congressman have the name power, but sometimes I think the voters still tend to put the two main parties back in power leaving the former congressman with a small percentage of the vote.
I’ve admired Tom Tancredo on the strong position he “has” taken on illegal immigation. However, “my” jury is still out as to whether he is a “secular conservative” or a “Christian conservative” or “Christian populist.” If he runs as the American Constitution nominee for Governor, I suppose we’ll have some better idea of what he is.
I’ll vote for Tom in a minute. The vast majority of Americans want illegal immigration controlled. It is a myth that illegals are “only doing the jobs Americans don’t want.” Tens of millions of Americans are faced with long term unemployment and will take lower paying jobs rather than end up homeless and destitute. the time is now to enforce the law and send the illegals back to their home countries. Tancredo has the guts to stand up for what he believes in.
I hope Spike Woodhouse is right about Tom Tancredo. But let’s wait and see just how Tancredo spells out his position on illegal aliens and how they are to be handled. If he sneaks in some vague language about them “becoming citizens the right way,” these are code words for “rushing them through the legalization process” so the GOP can get that cheap labor force they want so badly. This is typical of “secular conservatives” – whether they are GOP are American Constitution Party.
