The July 30 Buffalo News has this confusing story, which seems to say that if Carl Paladino loses the New York Republican gubernatorial primary on September 14, he will still be listed on the November ballot as the nominee of his new Taxpayers Party. But, if he loses the Republican primary, he would not campaign in the general election.
It IS a confusing article. Initial impression is that
Paladino is one of those tea partiers who want to control the GOP but not spoil it; ie, a stalking horse
rather than a genuine third-party-builder. If he campaigned, he might stand a chance of getting the 50,000 needed to win ballot access for the Taxpayers Party going forward. He is of course far from unique in
this stance in NY as in other states permitting cross-endorsement fusion.
