New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was on “Meet the Press” on August 1. Someone asked him about running for President in 2012. He said, “I will rule out a run. I’ve got the best job that I could possibly have. I’ve got 1,251 days more to do it. I’m looking forward to every single one of them.” Thanks to Political Wire for this.
Of course, he changed his mind about New York city term limits. Also, there would only be one year left in his third term as Mayor, as of presidential inauguration day in 2012.
Since he spent over 100 million dollars to be re-elected Mayor, he cannot afford the billions it would take to get enough voters nationally to support him.
He probably has an income of more than 100 million dollars per year. And he doesn’t need to spend any money campaigning in New York city this year, or in 2011, or 2012. I think he is wealthier than Ross Perot was in the 1990’s.
Michael Bloomberg would make a great Green Party candidate for President in 2012.
I would remind you that the current President at about the same time before the last election cycle said something very similar on the same TV show – Meet the Press- to Tim Russert…
Some of us hold out hope for a Green Party Bloomberg ticket…
Here we go again. This time around, I hope that more people actually take Mayor Bloomberg at his word and not try to get hime to run for president. What would be his platform anyway?
Mayor Bloomberg has the dollars to fund a successful Independent bid for president in 2012, but unfortunately, Bloomberg doesn’t attract too well with country folks down in Alabama like me.
Too bad we can’t find a populist multi-billionaire in the flavor of a George Wallace (without the racial baggage, of course) who could appeal to the common man and common woman from Florida to Washington State and from Maine to Arizona.
Oh well, I guess we can keep dreaming…..
He would be like Rockefeller. New England. North and mid-Atlantic coast. Some Midwest and Pacific coast. Other than there, zero interest.
Even those areas would be questionable, Michael. Let me ask again: What would be his platform? What would be his reason for running?
