Rick Lazio Likely to Remain as Conservative Party Nominee for New York Governor

Even though Rick Lazio lost the New York Republican primary for Governor, he is inclined to continue his candidacy as the Conservative Party nominee, according to this story.  A formal announcement is expected within 24 hours.  The last time the Conservative Party and the Republican Party each had separate nominees for Governor was 1990.  That year, the Conservative nominee, Herb London, polled 20.40% of the total vote.

Assuming the story is accurate, that will make at least five states in which a former or current Republican Governor or member of Congress is running for statewide office this year as a minor party candidate, or an independent candidate, or a write-in candidate.  The others are Lisa Murkowski in Alaska, Tom Tancredo in Colorado, Charlie Crist in Florida, and Lincoln Chafee in Rhode Island.  Lazio was a Republican member of Congress 1993-2001.

  1. Divide and conquer — nothing new since Julius Caesar in the rot of the Roman Republic.

P.R. and App.V. — NO primaries are needed.

  2. In New York, on the right we have Rick Lazio, Warren Redlich, Kristin Davis, and Carl Paladino. On the left there are Charles Barron and Howie Hawkins. And dead center we have Andrew Cuomo, Steve Cohn, and Jimmy McMillan. What a mixed-up mess!

  3. If Cuomo is “dead center,” Barron and Hawkins must be Commies.

That idiot Pierre Rinfret was the 1990 Republican nominee. No wonder Herb London did so well.

  4. Since when is Davis on the right?

Cuomo’s on the left. Hawkins and Davis are farther to the left.

Lazio is done. Paladino is on the extreme right.

There’s a huge space in the middle.

I’m on the center-right – a fiscal and pro-gun conservative with some moderate social positions.

    Let’s see what happens.

  5. You all need to stop letting yourselves be deceived by the right-left conservative-liberal mindsets. They were designed as Republican-Democrat traps to focus attention on mudslinging and keep people from looking outside the box at the real issues. The right-left pillars cannot stand on their own. They only stand when they are propped against one another compelling folks to vote for the lesser of the two lizards.

There is a third axis missing from the Nolan Chart which is political freedom. It includes really important issues of sovereignty, globalism, police state, and protecting our inaleinable rights.

What’s left to “conserve?” I consider myself to be a restorationist.

  10. I think that Rick Lazio should withdraw from the race and throw his support behind Paladino, before we wind up with Como as govenor. If that happens we will only have more of the same, and nothing will get done. He should be a mn and do the right thing.
