On October 5, the three candidates for Ohio Secretary of State debated each other. See this story. The three candidates are Democrat Maryellen O’Shaughnessy, Republican Jon Husted, and Libertarian Charlie Earl. Ballot Access News has been tracking debate inclusion starting in 1994, and this is the first time any Ohio debate for statewide office has included both major party nominees along with any minor party or independent candidate in a debate, except for the special election for Attorney General in 2008. Thanks to Kevin Knedler for the link.
Ohio will hold another three-party debate on October 6, for the three candidates for Auditor.
actually the Libertarian running for SOS is Charles Earl, not Mike Howard.
I would seriously like debates by Congressional District (like Douglas-Lincoln)or state legislature district.
For Sec of State, I would have all the candidates debate one another in each state legislature seat. At the end of the campaign, have a final debate in the capital with candidates reaching a threshold.
Thanks, TJM! I fixed it.
I think that the City Club of Cleveland had a debate before the 2008 special election for Attorney General. Cordray, Crites, and Owens participated. Rick Jackson of WVIZ ideastream moderated. Owens ran as an independent. Still available on YouTube. My favorite part is when Cordray said he could cut the budget of the AG office by 10%.
Thank you, Marc Allan Feldman. I will re-write the post.
