See here for a link to the October 19 Texas gubernatorial debate. The entire hour-long debate is there, in twelve separate segments. The participants were Bill White, the Democrat; Kathie Glass, the Libertarian; and Deb Shafto, the Green Party nominee. Republican nominee Rick Perry refused to participate because Bill White has not released some of his income tax returns to the public.

Too bad Governor Perry didn’t “man up” and debate his opponents. Admittedly a great campaign tactic when the state is falling apart fiscally to literally avoid any and all questions from the newspapers and journalists.
I wonder how Perry will do in the Republican debates in 2012 for President when he actually has to answer questions on how he drove Texas into the ditch. And I wonder if Republican voters see through his BS…I doubt it.
Another inclusive debate nice!!
#3 The TV station and the newspapers had originally invited candidates who had polled above a certain level. When it became clear that Perry would not take the invitation, the TV station (as not-for profit corporation) realized that it would be considered a contribution to White, if they had a one-man debate, or they would have to give equivalent opportunities to other candidates.
So all of the sudden there were these articles in the papers about the Libertarian candidate, and there were robocalls urging people to tell pollsters they were planning to vote for the Libertarian candidate. That didn’t work.
The papers and TV station then changed their invitation to be inclusive. There was another 3-way debate put on by the LWV in Houston, and even most newspapers didn’t cover it.
