Alaska Elections Officials Will Give Out List of Declared Write-in Candidates to Voters who Ask; Democrats May Sue to Stop That

The Alaska Division of Elections says it will give a list of all declared write-in candidates to voters at the polls who ask for the list.  The Democratic Party says it may sue to prevent that.  See this story.

The Democrats say the Elections Division has never prepared such a list before.  In response, the state says this is the first year there has been a declared write-in candidate for any statewide office.  The procedure for filing as a write-in has only existed since 2000.  Democrats are taking this position because they are threatened by Lisa Murkowski’s write-in candidacy for U.S. Senate.  The Republican Party is also threatened by the Murkowski candidacy, but the Republican Party has not signaled any agreement with the Democratic Party on this matter, so far at least.

Other states post the list on the wall at the polling place location, or leave it on a table for anyone to see.  Such states include California, Florida, Maine, North Carolina and Texas and probably others.  There are 35 states that have a procedure by which a write-in candidate files a write-in declaration of candidacy, at general elections.

  1. How many State regimes are LAWLESS — i.e. banana republics where stuff is made up out of thin air to deal with changing stuff ???

There is a reason why Election LAWS are a zillion sections long to deal with ALL possibilities — in rational States.

i.e. YES/NO at EVERY step in the election process – to have about ZERO discretion for ANY body.

Where is that MODEL ELECTION LAW ???– to be continuously updated and reviewed — in order to have a LEGAL *Democracy*.

It is ONLY having *democratic* (small d) elections that separates the West from the BARBARIANS (monarchs / oligarchs) in the East.

  2. In Kentucky it’s on the table, however it’s to be left face down until asked for by the voter and the workers can not give the names of the write-in candidates out loud. By the way, in November, 2008, my write-in vote for Alan Keyes was not listed in the local vote totals.

  3. The RNC should have taken legal action after that judge gave Lisa Murkowski permission to do electioneering in the polling place against Federal law. Yes handing out cards with someone name on It in a polling place is electioneering. They could have handed out the card to those that wanted it outside like everyone else. You have to be 50 ft away to hand out voter information in NC, including pocket copies of the Constitution.
