Democrats Choose Charlotte, North Carolina for 2012 Presidential Convention

On February 1, the Democratic National Committee announced that the party’s 2012 presidential convention will be in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is the first time that any party, major or minor, has ever held its presidential convention in North Carolina. Charlotte is the state’s largest city.

North Carolina is the nation’s ninth most populous state, and yet no presidential candidate in the general election has ever been a North Carolinian. This is peculiar, because North Carolina is one of the 13 original states.

The Democratic convention will be held the week of September 3-7, 2012. The Republican Party had already announced that it will hold its 2012 convention in Tampa; and the Libertarian Party had already announced that it will hold its convention in Las Vegas. Tampa and Las Vegas, like Charlotte, have never before been the location of a presidential convention. The Constitution Party will meet in Nashville, a city that has previously had presidential conventions. The Green Party hasn’t chosen its location yet.

  2. Richard. Shame on you. You failed to mention the 36th Quadrennial Prohibition National Convention is to be held June 20-22, 2011 in Cullman, Alabama.

The Probibition Party is the nation’s oldest 3rd party of continued existence, founded in 1869. It has had its presidential ticket on every presidential ballot (at least in one state) at every election since 1872.

  3. It seems to be better suited for the Republican National Convention. Especially since it’s so know for its married, conservative religious closet cases. It would be RNC heaven!

  4. Charlotte is a good fit for either major party convention given its totalitarian inclinations:

“Current bottom line: A group of citizens want to pay a hotel to talk to one another. No boycotts, no violence, no “engaging the enemy”… just talking to one another. Multiple egalitarian interest groups are taking aggressive steps to stop that from happening. More importantly, two local politicians may have sought to shut the conference down – probably violating some of the most fundamental rights accorded to Americans by the Constitution.”

  5. How come the Elephants are NOT taking over Alcatraz Island in S.F Bay ???

i.e. keep out those bothersome protest folks with machine guns, etc.

How much drinking during 1861-1865 before, during and especially after the many slaughterhouse battles at short range ??? — causing the Prohibition Party to get going in 1869 ??? — with its INSANE high point during 1919-1933 — prohibition — with the resulting death, destruction and especially govt corruption.

  6. At the Democratic national convention in Miami (1972?), G. Gordon Liddy wanted to have a yacht with prostitutes stationed offshore.

He wanted to entice high-profile Democrats to patronize the prostitutes and get photos/videos of them.

  7. Demo Rep: If you would study your history and the facts, you would find that for every 1 dollar of tax revenue received from the sell of Alcoholic beverages, it cost taxpayers a minimum of 3 dollars in health care, social costs, and law enforcement to pay for the results of drinking. How INSANE is that?

  8. Well, we in NC try to claim 3 presidents as ours. They were born in NC (one controversially, as SC claims him too).
Polk, Jackson, and Johnson. But they all went west and when they ran for President, did so from Tennessee. Of course, that means the last President we try to claim served from 1865-1869!
Unfortunately, our state has not had enough unified effort in working to elect a national candidate like that. We are far overdue for a serious major party presidential nominee.

I agree that I was surprised too. With Charlotte being such a big banking center, you’d think they’d want to avoid that.
