Americans Elect has collected more than 1,000,000 signatures on its petition to qualify as a party in California. The party’s national web page does not tell how many signatures it has collected in any particular state. However, as of June 16, the web page does say that the party has collected 1,262,665 signatures so far in the nation. The vast majority of these signatures are from California, where the state demands either 103,004 registrations or 1,030,040 signatures on a petition. Americans Elect is using the petition method, and will probably need at least 1,600,000 raw signatures to have enough valid signatures in California.
The public mood just now is very favorable to alternate choices, and the nation’s other minor parties would be wise to be petitioning for 2012 now. The weather is good for petitioning, and petitioning is always less expensive in odd years than in election years. Also paid petition drives go more smoothly without the stress of imminent deadlines looming.

Maybe we should ask the same question of the Republican and Democrat Parties and also their shadowy PAC, SuperPacs and extremist attack groups. Who is financing these?!
But at the end of the day does it really matter who is funding AE’s effort. There will an opportunity for America to select an alternative candidate. More choice for the consumer, i.e. voter.
Now the funny thing (or not) is that it will probably be Ron Paul who gets “nominated” by AE. He’ll just drop in a “nomination” time bomb e-mail.
Peter Ackerman, who founded the Center for the Study of Nonviolence and who is very wealthy, is known to be a leading backer of Americans Elect.

The word from street is “Arno has sent out a memo chastising his vendors for a 55% validfity rate and rampant duplicates.” The chargebacks have begun. Someone needs to take some signatures to a local Registrar’s office and compare the results to Arno’s claims.

Is Americans Elect petitioning in any other states? I haven’t heard or seen anything in South Carolina.
Wow more people will have signed the Americans Elect petition than recalling Gray Davis. I find this very curious.
Having petitioned for John Anderson [1980], Perot, Perot, Nader [2000], Recall Davis [2003], Nader [2004 ballot, 2004 write in], I have not seen ONE Americans Elect Petitioner, EVER.
