Jeffrey Sachs Writes that U.S. Needs a Third Party

Jeffrey Sachs is a well-known economist. He was named as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine, both in 2004 and 2005. He has written many books, including the best-sellers “The End of Poverty” and “Common Wealth.” He has recently written, “America needs a third-party movement to break the hammerlock of the financial elites. Until that happens, the political class and the media conglomerates will continue to spew lies, American militarism will continue to destablize a growing swath of the world, and the country will continue its economic decline.” See his full article here. 1. And a third party will be financed exactly…how?

We may need a viable third party, but without RADICAL campaign finance reform, third party “viability” is a pipe dream.

  2. We have a third party. What we don’t have is enough people to vote for one, and that is the result of a constitutional order that enables foolish rent-seeking. It is time to recognize that democratic elections are the problem, and to replace them with decision by randomly selected jurylike panels that serve for only a short period of time with no career path in public service.

If people can vote themselves government benefits without limits, they will, to the point of collapse of both the economy and the rule of law. It is time to amend the Constitution to limit not only government, but ourselves, to live within the cruel laws of economics and the weaknesses of human nature.

  3. Tom Friedman had an op ed today supporting Americans Elect. Although they’re funded by hedge fund millionaires/billionaires, so they’re really just the same politics in a shiny new package. But it’s interesting to see so much support for third parties.

  4. Looks like Americans Elecr has sarted a media campaign. According to the industry, shut down notices on the small counties is beginning next week. The largest so far appears to be San Benito. Based on this, it will take him at least tweo weeks to get everything in. So when Friedman was told “California would be submitted in a few days.”, that statement was materially false. Interesting timing on the press releases. Why come out of the shadows now? This should be fun to watch.

  5. How many genius-MORONS in the U.S.A. have never heard about —

    PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION

    — due to the EVIL brain dead know-it-all media super-MORONS ???

Total Votes / Total Seats = LOTS of parties

More govt or less govt or even same govt.

Will Dollar Judgment Day happen shortly due to the EVIL gerrymander minority rule MONSTERS in Deficit City ???

    Stay tuned.

  7. Kinda sounds like what the country needs too is that the major parties stop acting like jackasses. Thus, we need a third party movement since that is not going to happen.
