And the beat goes on…and the beat goes on.

I thought Ackerman and Schoen did a good job. Stepped in on each others comments in a very complementary way.
All in all, a fairly easy interview in that it brought up some of the objections and questions about AE but allowed them to give their version of the issues.
At the same time, it wasn’t a presentation that will bring new people flocking to their site.
Still, I’d give the entire episode a B+ for getting the name out and making them credible (big time national news program for “thinking” folks)
Setting the stage for the mayor to enter late in the process to “save” the nation from the beleaguered president and the re-run of a Texan.
Seems the cards are falling in place with nine months to go. Perhaps a 5% to 10% chance of success or major impact.

Del, “perhaps a 5 tp 10% chance of success or major impact”. WOW! Thanks for the overwhelming vote of confidence.
Its not about a “vote of confidence”, but about reality of how these things have gone in the past.
I welcome a viable 3rd choice.
However, I’d say a candidate doing as well as Perot is, as of now, about a 10% chance of taking off with the American public.
Cut that chance by at least half, if you are talking about actually winning. 1 in 20
Now, if you are talking about somewhere between a Perot type run (20% vote) and a typical go-nowhere 3rd party (2% vote), then of course the odds are higher. Perhaps a 25% chance of that. Example, a Americans Elect without Bloomberg, or his money. Say, a Huntsman.
To me, it appears that only Bloomberg, and his money, can take Americans Elect beyond the 20% Perot type effort.
It is my opinion that the Americans Elect “Party” is just a vehicle for Bloomberg’s Presidential aspirations. I believe he has incited this if not funded it. I predict that unlike the American Independent Party which had its origins in an independent Presidential bid, will be a flash in the pan and not persist to the next election cycle.
The reason you can be sure that it will not persist is that so far they are not seeking party registrations. If they want to be durable, that is the way.
Since the sponsors of Americans Elect claim the right to filter nominations rather than allow a free expression of the will of all participating Americans.
Another little kicker, the VP running mate must be selected by the Presidential aspirant before the nomination. But get this, the VP running mate must be from another party! No problem for many 3rd party candidates, but a BIG problem for Democrats & Republicans.
I predict that a Presidential aspirant seeking the nomination of Americans Elect will have no problem if his name is spelled “Bloomberg.”
