In the last few days, Americans Elect has begun circulating the petition for party status in Montana, which requires 5,000 valid signatures. Americans Elect is also working to organize itself in Mississippi and Vermont, two states in which no petition is needed, if a group demonstrates that it has an organization in the state.
Also in Montana, the Constitution Party is working on the same type of petition. The only ballot-qualified parties currently in Montana are the Democratic, Republican and Libertarian Parties.
I heard NC also
What will AE do when they get to Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, and other states that don’t have a procedure to qualify as a party?
They will be on the ballot in all 50 states.
That AE drumbeat is nice to hear.

I wonder if we could enhance the site to include barometer graphics to indicate the number of AE signatures included in each of the 50 states, or would it be easier just to add 50 new posts each day with updates on the signature drives?
@2 That’s why the nominating convention is in June
#6
Why is that? Because there must be a named candidate(s) for purposes of ballot access for a party’s presidential candidate?
PA and NY petitions can be done after June.
IL can be done in June, tho I don’t think @2 is correct about the inability to put a party on in IL; it just needs stand-in candidates.
There is no reason for AE to fail ballot access in any state given how much money they have.
They are spending way too much, with way too much going to the middlemen, but they can afford it and if they fail anywhere that would be entirely avoidable.
“PA and NY petitions can be done after June.”
They could start petitioning in Pennsylvania as early as mid February if they select stand in candidates. The deadline in Pennsylvania is August 1st.
According to the chart on this website, there isn’t a procedure to put a party on the ballot in those states that I mentioned (and some others), but there are procedures to put Independent Candidates on, with partisan labels.
I know that AE has been using the party method to get on the ballot everywhere they’ve petitioned, but there are some states that don’t have laws on the books for that method.
There are two statewide judicial races in Pennsylvania this November. The signature requirement will be based upon 2% of the highest vote count by any one candidate in either of those two races.
Go Constitution Party of Montana! Chuck Baldwin’s people should be able to help with that.
The CP will just split the vote for the LP. We do need less government and more freedom.

Yes! More freedom from stock market regulation. That’s what we need. More freedom for monopolies. We need that too. More freedom from public schools. More freedom for our kids to go without health care. More freedom to work into our eighties and nineties without the meddling interference of socialistic programs like Social Security and Medicare. And less government! Way less government!
Yeaaahhhhhhhhhhh!

As if the government really does a good job at any of this stuff….NOT!
Early in 2012, Americans Elect will probably start petitioning in the states that require a presidential candidate to be listed on the petition. It will be fun to see whom they choose as the stand-in presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
Richard, I’m glad im not the only nerd that is excited to find out who they list as stand-ins.
