Daily Caller Says Buddy Roemer Thinking About Running for President Outside the Two Major Parties

The Daily Caller has this article, saying Buddy Roemer is thinking about running for president outside the two major parties. Roemer has been seeking the Republican nomination, but the Florida Republican Party refused to list him on the Florida Republican presidential primary ballot (there is no other way for him to get on that ballot), and he has been barred from all the Republican presidential debates so far.

Roemer was elected as a Democrat to Congress from Louisiana in 1980 at the age of 37. He was re-elected in 1982, 1984, and 1986, and then in 1987 was elected Governor as a Democrat. In March 1991 he changed his party affiliation to Republican, and was defeated for re-election that year after the Republican Party endorsed another Republican running for Governor. In 2008 Roemer campaigned for John McCain for President. Thanks to Eric Dondero for the link.

  1. I actually sent Roemer an email about 2 weeks ago asking him to consider running for the Constitution Party nomination, as they don’t have any candidates yet and he agrees with them on the issues.

  2. 2) Like Romney, Roemer was running for president as a Republican and he suddenly remembered he was pro-life. Also, he isn’t getting any traction in the GOP race, according to the FEC he has gotten only $200,000 in contributions. Judge Roy Moore was in the same spot and now he is considering the Constitution Party nomination.

  3. Richard,

Roemer is strongly pro-life on abortion, though he still vetoed a pro-life bill which the LA legislature passed because he believed it was too restrictive and did not take in consideration the well being of the woman. The bill in question prevented rape victims from getting an abortion if they didn’t report the crime within a period of 7 days.

There was a recent exchange between Roemer and Danny DeVito on Twitter, where Roemer asked for his vote, and DeVito asked if he was pro-choice and he said no.

Why doesn’t a life created by a rape merit the same protection given to any other life? Isn’t all life precious in God’s sight?

And where is God in the seven days allowed a rape victim to make a choice about keeping her rape baby? On vacation? Causing tsunamis? Inventing new genetic mutations and diseases? Asleep at the Big Wheel?

  7. Fred,

The bill only allowed rape victims and women who had pregnancies due to incest to abort in the beginning of the pregnancy, I think it was restricted the first trimester. The legislators viewed, like you do, that there was no difference in a rape victim aborting in the third trimester than any other case of pregnancy.

They decided to give some leeway to the woman if conception had just recently occurred. Additionally, the 7 day window limited this even further. Why they didn’t decide to give that leeway to all women, regardless of circumstance, I don’t know. Maybe they cared more about legislating personal responsibility than protecting life.

  8. Roy Moore is now running for his old job as Alabama Chief Justice and running in the GOP primary

So God thinks less of a life born of incest? Did He create someone other than Adam and Eve? If not, then where did we all come from if not from incestuous couplings?
