This newspaper story quotes Buddy Roemer has saying that his ideal running mate would be U.S. Senator Joseph Lieberman. However, the story then says that Senator Lieberman has thanked Roemer, but that Lieberman has no interest in running for Vice-President again. In 2000 he was the Democratic Party’s nominee for vice-president.
The most interesting aspect of this story is that it seems to show Roemer’s intention to run for President outside of the major parties remains strong.

The good news is that we can turn to the Republicans and Democrats who don’t participate in any of the activity you accuse Lieberman of….oops…never mind.
I know it’s only Buddy’s personal fantasy, but even the suggestion that Lieberman as a Roemer’s Veep candidate would satisfy AE “requirement” that the two candidates be from different parties…well, it makes me laugh very hard and loudly in my room – all alone by myself.
I would think Joe might take Buddy as HIS running mate not the other way around. It makes little difference anyway.
To me the real challenge is for independent and third party candidates to get qualified runningmates.
Looking at Americans Elect rules, there will be 5 finalists who must all have runningmates from a different party. What qualified candidate is going to jump from their current party to have a 1 in 5 chance to be the VP candidate through Americans Elect?

Advocating Social Insurance, Medicare, or other government programs is NOT socialism in the traditional sense. If anything, they are “populists” doctrines – but hardly socialist.

Founding Fathers intended that slavery be kept a legal institution, and that slaves be counted as 3/5 of a human being for purposes of determining representation in the House of Representatives. Founding Fathers, for the most part, intended that woman should not be allowed to vote, and that they should not be allowed to own property. They intended that US Senators should be appointed by governors. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that they didn’t intend to make abortion illegal, nor prison sentences for debtors. Hell, they didn’t even think it was worth the time to write a Bill of Rights into the Constitution. We hear all the time in this space about states’ rights, usually from the same people who espouse the doctrine of original intent, and yet…the FF’s forgot to build the tenth amendment into the original constitution. Why is that, do you think? Since you can apparently read the minds of dead people, perhaps you can enlighten us?
And how far do you propose that we implement the Founding Father’s “intent?” Do you advocate disenfranchising women, for example, to practice your “intent” faith?
And why, exactly, do you think that conservatives are exempt from criticisms of not heeding the Founding Fathers’ “intent?”
If the FF’s did not intended to banish progressive thought and action from American life, as you contend, why did they build an amendment process into the constitution? Why did they create the Supreme Court? Why didn’t they just carve the words of the Constitution into a huge block of granite and command the populace to drop down on their knees and pray to their “intent”, and never change one word?
