On December 16, Buddy Roemer filed for the Texas presidential primary, which requires a $5,000 filing fee. He will be one of nine candidates on the ballot. The others are Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney, and Rick Santorum. The primary will be April 3.
Roemer’s stance is that he is simultaneously seeking the Americans Elect nomination and the Republican nomination.
Sounds like a waste of $5000 to me. Think of all the hungry children that could feed this Christmas, or all the toys for needy tots. Greedy egotistical politicians!
I thought there was a TX law forbidding a candidate from being on a party ballot unless he also pledged to support the nominee. Isn’t that what kept Kucinich off the ’08 ballot there, or is that merely a democrat party rule?
PEACE
Interesting that Roemer did not file for the Oklahoma Primary which has only a $2500 filing fee. Especially given that the Governor and a Congressman from Texas is running in the Texas primary. A waste of precious funds either way if he is bolting to go Americans Elect.
#2, that was just a Democratic Party rule, not a state law. Kucinich sued the Texas Democratic Party but the party won the lawsuit.
