Ron Paul Wins a Majority of Maine Delegates to Republican National Convention; Also Gains Delegates in Nevada

On May 6, at the Maine state Republican convention, delegates were chosen to the national convention in Tampa. See this story, which says that Ron Paul won 15 of the 24 spots.

  1. Under past rules, a candidate needs a majority in five state delegations in order to have an official nominating speech presented to the Republican National Convention.

    Look for the Republican National Committee to change the rules if Ron Paul gets a majority in 5 state delegations.

  2. Can they even do that on the fly in the next few months? Or did you just mean in future conventions?

    Alternatively, they might pressure many state parties to switch from caucuses to primaries, or have stricter enforcement of pledged primary delegates’ votes.

  3. If they can change the rules before or at the convention, then believe me they will find a way of keeping Paul’s name from going forward.
