The Peace & Freedom Party has hired a professional who will work to increase the party’s registration in California, and who will also train party volunteers on voter registration work. In addition, Cindy Sheehan, who has been a registered member of the party since 2010, has agreed to run for Governor in 2014, and the party has already endorsed her. See news of all these developments here at the party’s web page.
Well, at least Cindy Sheehan is a *better* candidate than Roseanne Barr. (Tongue firmly planted in cheek that sentence)
Best of luck to Ms. Sheehan.
“Well, at least Cindy Sheehan is a *better* candidate than Roseanne Barr.”
Especially since Barr lives in Hawaii and is probably not eligible to run for governor of California.
I think California needs a socialist alternative to the capitalist parties which includes the Greens and as we saw in 2004, 2008 and 2012 , the P&FP.
The debate with Jerry Brown will be interesting.
@3- Roseanne also said that she wanted to run for Prime Minister of Israel, so don’t think that her residency would stop her from pulling more shenanigans outside of Hawaii.
Not that Cindy Sheehan will not be a bad candidate, but the party’s “endorsement” consists of about 25 people who showed up in Riverside (after the convention was changed from Bakersfield) without notice that endorsement of any candidates for anything would be on the agenda, thus eliminating any competition. This was probably a ploy by party chairperson Kevin Akin (of Riverside) who has been dead set (behind the scenes) against a repeat candidacy of Mohammed Arif (of Bakersfield), who has done great outreach to bring Muslims into PFP since running for the PFP nomination for Governor last time around.
Akin, who blocks any attempt by the party to ever engage in a serious policy discussion of Israeli-Palestinian issues (in support of the employment of his son, who is right-wing Zionist U.S. Senator Ron Wyden’s chief policy wonk on Foreign Relations, Military & Veterans affairs), continues on his path to Stalinizing PFP (Kevin Akin is so hard-core that he supported the Soviet Invasion of Czechoslovakia). Following a request by Marsha Feinland at the convention that he submit correspondence sent in his official capacity to other party officers for approval, he is reported to have “gone berserk” at the suggestion and threatened to resign if required to do so. This was in response to a widely circulated letter he wrote about me (Jan B. Tucker) which was so bizarre that his own supporters initially denied that he wrote it.
Kevin Akin is primarily responsible for the destructive decline and minimalization of the Peace and Freedom Party of California in recent years.
Communist Party apparatchik Akin is attempting to transform P&F from an organization controlled and run by its registrants into a Stalinist style dictatorship of 13 officers who exclude all other members of the state central committee from the decision making processes. Akin and his second wife, Margaret Helen Kleiger are both listed at Key Wiki dot org ( http://www.keywiki.org )as longtime Communist Party members (more committed to the Democratic Party than an independent political formation).
Having to pay a professional outsider to bail out the party’s declining registrant base has come about as Chairman Akin and his enablers from Alameda County have driven almost all of the committed community activists out of the party. Akin who is never wrong in his own mind is trying to control every minute aspect of a once innovative and creative political party.
