Charles Wheelan has just written “The Centrist Manifesto”, which advocates that a new, centrist political party be created. His book argues that such a party would be potentially capable of winning four or five U.S. Senate seats, and holding the balance of power in the U.S. Senate. Here is more information about the author. He has written four previous books, one of which was a best-seller. He teaches at Dartmouth. Thanks to PoliticalWire for this news.
Doesn’t Mr. Wheelan know about the Libertarian Party? They’re as close to a major centrist party as we’re ever going to get.
More or less STATISM.
Nothing new in 7000 plus years of regimes.
A “centrist” party would be to the left of the Democratic Party.
A “centrist” party attempting to gain legislative seats in an established bipartisan monopoly must heed where the Democratic and Republican parties are and are thought to be and position itself accordingly–a very contrived place, it’s less independence than the major parties have and of course the major parties themselves are dependent on much they won’t cop to.
Centerism’s appeal is a mirage fostered only by the unexamined stranghold of the bipartisan establisment. It’s not a way out. Centerism’s need of the two parties is the basis of it’s dimissal.

Good point. I’m thinking of the “feelers” that are used to gap spark plugs.
