Transatlantic Academy Publishes “The Democratic Disconnect”

The Transatlantic Academy, a research institute which studies social problems in North America and Europe, has published a report, “The Democratic Disconnect”, discussing problems of democratic governance. Here is a link to the report. The chapter on problems in the United States and Canada opens by saying, “Democracy in the U.S. is ailing, and badly in need of reform. Canadian democracy is currently working better, although there is a risk of dark clouds gathering on the horizon.”

  1. Interesting… I thought the US had a republic not a democracy. How could I be so wrong?

  2. Richard –

Thanks for posting this link to one of the most sublimely delusional and unintentionally comical piece of political drivel that has been penned in many years.

  3. sorry –

My comment above was intended for the post on Morton Kondracke’s piece mentioned two posts below.

  4. Chapter three of this thing…correct me if I’m wrong…but not ONE mention of minor parties! If they think mentioning the Tea Party movement counts as such, wrong, utterly wrong. This report on democratic institutions and systems FAILED to discuss one of the biggest problems with American elections: the suppression of minor parties by the major parties, their wealthy donors, and the mainstream news media. If they don’t think anything is wrong with such suppression, I recommend they have a nice discussion with Jill Stein and Gary Johnson…
