On the evening of June 20, the New York legislature passed A7832, which authorizes New York city to use the old-fashioned mechanical voting machines in this year’s city elections. The machines have been in storage since 2010. Federal law does not permit their use in federal elections, and they have not been used anywhere else in the nation since 2006. These machines are fun to use. Too bad I can’t vote in this election.
I hope someone posts a copy of the primary ballot when it’s printed.
How soon before the JUNK machines go to
1. A museum about election law junk – such as the infamous JUNK punch card ballot devices or
2. To a real JUNK yard – to recycle the machines into tin cans, etc. ???
3. For the corner of your living room, to be used for voting by your book club.
