I really wish people like Cindy Sheehan would join the Green Party. I think by running as a candidate for another party she’s making her campaign more of an exercise in self promotion. The Greens need people like her to be in the party. Running with the P&FP might help her to maintain her profile, but she would do more long term good for the issues she cares about by being an activist within the Green Party. This might mean endorsing another candidate and campaigning with them or it might mean working as a party officer. What she’s doing is not helping us.
This should be interesting. Barr/Sheehan got 0.41 percent of the vote in CA in 2012 — but if people voted for vice president, then Lloyd Bentsen would have been the Vice President of the United States. All of her vote will come from the antiwar movement, which has mostly collapsed since the “peace candidate” was elected in 2008. This might give us an indication of how much of the peace movement is still left, at least in California.
And yes, I also think that it would be better if she were to run as a Green.
Cindy Sheehan has described herself as a socialist. Why would she join the anti-socialist Green Party?
