Richmond Times-Dispatch Carries Lengthy Story About Rob Sarvis, Libertarian Nominee for Governor

The August 4 Richmond Times-Dispatch has a long story about Rob Sarvis, the Libertarian candidate for Virginia Governor.

Meanwhile, there are numerous stories about the ethical troubles of the incumbent Republican Governor (who is not running for re-election) as well as the Democratic nominee. See this New York Times story about the Democratic nominee, Terry McAuliffe. See this story about a corruption probe of incumbent Republican Governor Bob McDonnell.

  1. It should be noted that McDonnell CANNOT run for reelection either – Virginia is the last state limiting governors to no consecutive terms.

Also Cuccinelli has been implicated in the probe as well. Though the amount and type of gifts he received isn’t as damming, the fact that he initially under-reported them is. He may be able to survive when all is said and done, or who knows, more could come out and he could be removed from office if he’s elected.

The article revealed Sarvis didn’t consider running until March. While some might decry this as typical Libertarian lack of foresight or organization, I actually think this was prudent and refreshing to hear. Bill Bolling was considering running as an independent until mid-March, that’s probably the point at which Sarvis considered a run. Expending limited resources in a crowded field would be silly, that’s why it’s also nice to see many of the LP state delegate candidates are in 1 v 1 races.

Also sorry this is completely off-topic: did the Senate bill to abolish FEC funds for major party national conventions (that came up a few months ago) ever get signed into law?
