New Jersey Governor Must Decide by September 9 Whether to Sign Bill Moving General Election from November to October

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie must decide how to respond to AB 4237 by September 9. This is the bill that moves this year’s general election for state office from November 5 to October 16. The bill passed in June. If the Governor signs the bill, the state will save $12,000,000 in election administration costs. Without the bill, the state holds a special general election for U.S. Senate on October 16 and then a regular general election for state office (Governor and legislature) on November 5.

  1. The absentee ballots for the special election have already gone out to voters. In the unlikely event that the election is moved to November, will the ballots already mailed in be tossed?

  2. How many State Consts permit the gerrymander robot party hacks to change GENERAL election dates by mere laws ???

  3. Pat – the special election will not be moved to November, so if the ballot was just for the special election, they would not be tossed.
