FEC Staff Prepares Two Draft Opinions on Whether Tea Party Leadership Fund Deserves Disclosure Exemption

The Federal Election Commission will vote on November 21 on a request by the Tea Party Leadership Fund to be exempt from federal disclosure laws. The basis for the request is that individuals publicly identified as donors are likely to be harassed. The FEC staff has drafted two possible rulings, one that says “yes” and one that says “no.” Here is a link to both drafts. Thanks to Thomas Jones for the link.

FEC Staff Prepares Two Draft Opinions on Whether Tea Party Leadership Fund Deserves Disclosure Exemption — 5 Comments

  1. Are thee the same people who tried to pass off right wing groups as non-partisan and get classified as non- profits with the IRS which correctly were targeted for scrutiny?

  2. How much of the ANTI-King George III regime stuff in 1760-1776 was anonymous ???

How much of the ANTI-slavery stuff in the EVIL slave States in 1776-1865 was anonymous ???

In either case — to avoid getting KILLED or thrown in jail for a 150 years or more or fined a zillion money units.

  3. Considering the way Tea Party people and organizations were targeted for persecution by the Feds I think it’s pretty obvious that they should get an exemption to protect their donors.
