New Political Party in Honduras Has a Chance of Winning Presidency in November 24 Election

Honduras holds a presidential election on Sunday, November 24. As this Los Angeles Times story explains, a new party, the Free Party, could conceivably defeat both of the two older major parties, which are the Liberal Party and the National Party.

  1. Minus the bloodshed and the rise of a strong third party, the electoral situation in Honduras almost reminds me ours here in America. Two entrenched parties that are corrupt beyond belief. One right-wing party, and one center/center-left party that is moving more right with every presidential election.
    I hope a third party manages to find a way to break the stranglehold the Democrats and Republicans have on our country. I hope voters finally and truly open themselves to voting for such a party. Perhaps it’ll end up being some sort of a mix/alliance between the Green and Libertarian Parties, we actually agree on quite a few things. Perhaps we’ll have both break the stranglehold as separate entities. Or maybe it’ll be some unforeseen group that does it. Either way, it needs to happen.

  2. The Libre Party is actually named for the LIBerty and REfoundation Party. One of the reasons they will do so well, or even succeed, in electing a President in their first campaign is the proportional election system for their National Congress. We will need something like that here for any lasting third party success.
