Ohio has several U.S. House districts in which the only person who filed in any party primary is the incumbent. However, Republicans will try to nominate someone by write-in at the May 6 primary in the 13th district, and Democrats will likewise try, in the 4th district. I imagine the process is different for Libertarians then the major parties in submitting paperwork for write-ins. Wasn’t the deadline already passed for the May 6 primary paperwork?
The procedures for filing for declared write-in status in party primaries in Ohio is the same for all parties. Ohio requires all ballot-qualified parties to nominate by primary, this year. However, in future years, newly-qualifying parties will nominate by convention.
The Democrat and the Republican mentioned in the story did meet the write-in filing deadline, which is 72 days before the May 6 primary. The story could have been written back in February when they filed, but it just happens that it is being written now.
About 97 plus percent of all USA Rep seats are de facto ONE party.
