On August 22, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn, a Democrat who is running for re-election this year, criticized the individuals who challenge the statewide Libertarian Party candidate petition. See this statement posted on the Governor’s campaign web page.
There is no evidence that the statement is by Pat Quinn.
He’s only saying that, if he is indeed of that opinion, in order to try and score political points. It’s like debating what’s the right way to commit a crime; the crime still shouldn’t be committed in the first place, and the crime, or at least very undemocratic practice, is the use of ballot access laws to keep all but the Democratic and Republican Parties off the ballots. It’s quite a hypocritical statement to make on his or his administration’s part in light of their party’s successful takedown of the Green Party’s state slate ballot access petition.
