Libertarian Nominee for U.S. Senate in Iowa Killed in Plane Crash

On October 13, Doug Butzier died in a plane crash. He was an emergency room physician in Dubuque, Iowa, and president of the hospital’s medical staff. See this story. He was the Libertarian Party nominee for U.S. Senate in Iowa. Because ballots have already been printed, his name will remain on the ballot. Thanks to Bill Redpath for the link.

Libertarian Nominee for U.S. Senate in Iowa Killed in Plane Crash — 3 Comments

  1. This is sad news. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Obviously I have never had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Butizer, and even though we might have disagreed politically, I’m sure there are many other things he and I would have found in common.

I do have to take my hat off to the GOP nominee who has acknowledged this tragedy. I assume the Democratic nominee has or will do likewise.

It is also disappointing that the Libertarian Party could not be allowed to substitute another candidate. The excuse by the Secretary of State’s office that the ballots have already been printed is lame. I assure you, had this been the GOP nominee or the Democratic nominee, the Secretary of State would have “moved mountains” to allow those parties to replace the nominee.

  2. RIP.

    1. What happened to the OLD paper stickers on OLD paper ballots and voting machines ???

    2. Candidate / incumbent rank order lists for replacements.
ALL legislative bodies must be filled 24/7 to deal with stuff – esp.. due to powermad executive officers — Prezs, Govs, etc.

  3. — was Libertarian candidate “Fuddy-ed” by Iowa version of aviation accident systemic treason?
