According to this story, an Oklahoma election law that won’t even be in effect starting January 1, 2015, may force Oklahoma to hold a special U.S. House election early in 2015. The Democratic Party nominee died shortly before the general election, and according to the law in effect in 2014, it appears that therefore a special election must be held, even though the Republican Party nominee polled 70% of the vote.
Question One. “Which party controls the Oklahoma Legislature?”
Question Two. “If it is the Democratic Party, then no further questions needed.”
Question Three: “If the Republicans control the Oklahoma Legislature, , then as the highly popular TV sitcom character Fred Sanford would ask, “ARE YOU CRAZY?”
Richard, according to the article “the state law at the center of the controversy changes on Jan. 1 to allow for special elections only if a dead person wins a regular election.”
Meaning the current law would be the one that would force the special election.
