U.S. Supreme Court Hears Alabama Redistricting Case Next Week

On Wednesday, November 12, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear Alabama Legislative Black Caucus v State, 13-895. Here is a New York Times story explaining the issue in the case.

The Alabama Legislative Black Caucus filed the lawsuit to overturn the 2011 legislative districting plan. They argue that the plan packs as many black voters as possible into a limited number of districts, so that the overall influence of black voters is reduced. The 3-judge U.S. District Court had upheld the plan by a 2-1 vote.

  1. Here is one of those cases where the Court could come up with some convoluted ruling which will allow Blacks more representation than their numbers justify. How they will accomplish such remains to be seen, unless they come up with a rule which says that only so many members of the Legislature shall be of the White Race and the remaining members must be of the non-White Race.

For those of you who constantly yell for “Proportional Representation,” then this could be your day.

If this happens, it should be of no big surprise. Because it can be assured those of the non-White Race will be Democrats, diluting the majority will of the People who have chosen Republicans to represent them.

Too bad we don’t have the same mindset saying that there are not enough 3rd party and Independent members of the Legislature. But don’t hold your breath. Such is not likely to ever happen.

  2. More yelling for PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTION =

    REAL Democracy and minority representation.

I.E. to END the nonstop minority rule gerrymander systems since 1776 in the USA.
