North Carolina Supreme Court Upholds 2011 Congressional and Legislative Redistricting

On December 19, the North Carolina Supreme Court upheld the 2011 redistricting plan for both U.S. House and state legislature. See this story. The voting rights advocates who brought the case say they will ask the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse the State Supreme Court. A similar case is before the U.S. Supreme Court now, concerning Alabama legislative districts. Both sets of plaintiffs argue that the districts pack too many African-American voters into certain districts, which prevents them from having an impact on most other districts. There were other issues in the North Carolina case as well, concerning splitting precincts.

The North Carolina case is Dickson v Rucho, 201PA12. Here is a link to the 51-page decision. The vote was 4-2, with one justice not voting.

  1. Some people are never satisfied. First, a certain group of people complained because they were denied the right to vote.(There was a good reason for this complaint.) Then the right to vote was given. But then they complained because no one from their “community” was ever elected.(There was a certain degree of reason for complaint here.) Then, districts for school board, county commissions, legislatures, and even congressional delegations were gerrymandered so they would be representations of the minor and major racial make-ups of a state. Now, they are not satisfied because they have no impact on those districts where they don’t have enough voters to elect one of their own.

As I said, some people are never satisfied.

What will it take to satisfy those who continue to claim discrimination?

  2. Answer – P.R.
    —–
ALL houses of the USA Congress and State legislatures are pack / crack gerrymander AREAS – having ZERO to do with ACTUAL voters on ELECTION days.

    1/2 or less votes x 1/2 gerrymander areas = 1/4 CONTROL.

REAL control about 5-10 percent in the various primary systems — i.e. EXTREMIST communist Donkeys and fascist Elephants.

Should be 2 or 3 mainly BLACK States formed from parts of southern States — then let the black voters see how corrupt things can get — just as in mainly white States.

    NO primaries.
    P.R. and nonpartisan App.V.

  3. Demo Rep

You miss the whole point of my last reply. This particular group of the electorate are not satisfied whether it is under a partisan or non-partisan electoral system. So your No primaries and P.R. and nonpartisan App.V is not going to provide the answer.

I would hope you would have provided an answer to my question. Apparently you are too blind as to what I’m referring to.

  4. Having ANY single member legislative districts AUTOMATICALLY produces super powermad arrogant legislative monarchs / oligarchs — controlled by special interest gangsters.

How about noting how many *CIVILIZED* free world nations NOW have P.R. to represent ALL larger groups in their legislative bodies –
    — Israel, Germany, New Zealand, EU Parliament, etc. [with about 5 percent defects in each].

    P.R. =
Party Members = Total Members x Party Votes / Total Votes

Near TOTAL brainwashing / brain dead folks about having AREA representation in the USA — when VOTERS should be represented in ALL legislative bodies — smallest township to Congress.

  5. Demo Rep:

How about explaining what you are trying to say in a plainly written reply, rather than attempting to use some math-looking equation to explain your views.

I’m sure Richard doesn’t mind you using all the complete sentences and whole paragraphs you need to explain how your idea of representative government would satisfy all the voters.

    We’ll be waiting.

  6. Sorry. Democracy is ALL about math formulas —

    such as 51 > 49.

CLUELESS folks can look at the wikis for
    Gerrymanders
    and
Proportional Representation — both involving some 3rd grade math.

  7. You still don’t make a bit of sense, other than to repeat the same thing over and over again, and that is you support Proportional Representation and non-partisan elections. We get it. What else do you believe in regarding elections or other issues which affect the average American?

Do you not fear the U.N?

Do you not fear Red China?
