According to this story, the Connecticut Republican Party has created a committee to evaluate whether to again let independent voters vote in Republican primaries. The committee will also discuss whether to try to persuade the legislature to move Connecticut’s presidential primary from April to March. And the committee will discuss whether to eliminate state party endorsement conventions (for office other than president).
Not too shocked that the Connecticut GOP is considering closing its primary to Independents. The article tends to blame Independents for helping to produce nominees who could not win in the General Election. My interpretation of the article may or may not be true.
However, it is not surprising of this sentiment of some GOP officials in this state as well as in many states. Republicans want only a certain type of nominee. That nominee must be in the “Herbert Hoover” mold when it comes to economics, and in the “Dwight Eisenhower” mold when it comes to foreign policy.
Such a Republican Party has no chance running against a party which it almost emulates. Why vote for a reflection, when you can vote for the real thing.
Independents of Connecticut, form your own party and work for an American which will care for the poor, seek justice for the workers, and be willing to recognize who our real foreign enemies are, and stand up to them.
Currently, independents can’t vote in Connecticut Republican primaries, but the party is considering whether to let them in. In the past independents could vote in the Ct. Republican primary for statewide office, but then the party decided not to allow that anymore, but now it may change its mind again.
I was not aware the GOP leaders had changed the policy of once allowing the Independents to vote in their Primary. The Republicans are desperate in this state. They want their party to become a dominate party like the Democratic Party, but they just seem to lack the ability to find the answer.
If they would ask me what they need to do, I could advise them, but I’m not expecting any request from them any time soon.
