Thomas E. Brennan, a former Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court, and the founder of a 4-campus law school, has requested a speaking slot at the Constitution Party’s April 24-25 national executive committee meeting in Pittsburgh. Here is the wikipedia article about Brennan.
You’d think he’d support the rights of juries to judge law and fact (WWW.FIJA.org) Our founding fathers saw a jury of our peers as another check on abusive government. This is one reason why we have the 6th Amendment and trial by jury.
He serves as Chairman of Convention USA which, according to its website, “operates a virtual Article V Amendatory Convention on the Internet and provides a web site for Delegates to register and participate in the process of drafting proposed amendments to the Constitution of the United States.” Mann asserts “the courts are not to be fettered by the views of an earlier age, but should seek to apply the ever-evolving values of equality and individual rights.”
He’s a leader in the ConCon movement talking to a group whose platform reads: “We oppose any attempt to call for a Constitutional convention, for any purpose whatsoever, because it cannot be limited to any single issue, and such convention could seriously erode our Constitutionally protected unalienable rights.” More at http://www.constitutionparty.com/resolution-opposing-calls-for-a-constitution-article-v-convention/
This ought to be fun …
The Chairman of Convention USA speaking to a CP meeting? How very strange…
The article says that he has requested a speaking slot, NOT that he has been invited. Has his request been granted? I don’t see him on the schedule of this event listing at http://www.constitutionparty.com/get-involved/events/
I agree with Peter, this aught to be fun. I will be there.
By the way, I just noticed that Judge Brennan is 85 years of age. Hope we don’t give him a heart attack, Peter.
he’s not listed yet on the official agenda – that has yet to be published. Yes, to be fair, he contacted us with the request to speak – we accepted. haven’t a clue why.
I will be at the National Committee Meeting late this month, but I hope Judge Brennan has another birthday to celebrate elsewhere and doesn’t bother to show up at our meeting. In spite of all the promises the Article V people promise out of their mission, I just cannot trust them ! Amending the Articles of Confederation was the sole purpose of the Federal Convention in 1787, and that was weaseled into an entire new Constitution that we are barely hanging on to today ! I would rather see our party platform focused on ensuring a strict governance based on the Constitution. If any changes are made at the national level, the first one I would like to see passed is that ALL members of the three branches of our government are United States citizens ONLY, and not dual with any other country !! e.g. In 2014, both Ted Cruz & Michele Bachmann renounced their Canadian & Swiss citizenships respectively. They NEVER should have been allowed to be elected to our Congress in the first place !
