SB 5978 had stalled in the House State Government committee after members of the State Democratic Executive Committee expressed their disdain for voters. This caused it to miss an April 1 deadlines for ordinary bills to be reported by a committee in the non-originating House.
The bill has been reassigned to the Appropriations Committee, and the fact that the amendment would have a fiscal impact, permits a later consideration. The Appropriations Committee heard the amendment, but didn’t act, and the session ends on the 26th.
