Fox and Hounds Daily, a prominent California politics blog, has this commentary by Richard Winger on California AB 372, the bill to require write-in candidates in the primary to pay a large filing fee if they get enough votes to appear on the November ballot.

  1. An instant lawsuit will need to be filed if a write-in person qualifies in the next top 2 primary.


    Due to the various gerrymander districts NOT having 1 D and 1 R, the REAL minority rule in CA is very close to 25 percent —

    1/2 votes x 1/2 districts = 1/4 CONTROL.


    NO primaries.

  2. Yes, a well written article by Richard Winger. But I think Richard has a good point in citing the Constitution. So if this bill does become law, surely one of the minor parties then would sue, citing the constitution forbids such from occurring.
    At least, this would make the TOP TWO controlled Assembly have to place an amendment on the state ballot, and let the people decide. As far as how the people would vote is anyone’s guess. But it is obvious, the two major parties are “hell bent” to keep all 3rd party and Independent candidates off the General Election Ballot.
