Near the end of this story, one can read that Larry Sanders, older brother of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, is running as a Green Party nominee for Britain’s House of Commons. That election is May 7.

If Larry Sanders loses his race, it could be a negative for Bernie Sanders. But if he wins, then it could boost Sander’s image and might give Sanders a more favorable image as a Presidential candidate. Voters and how they react to the actions or events involving family members of candidates are sometimes unpredictable. Will be interesting to see how it turns out.
What is Larry’s citizenship, British or American?
Then again The Larry Sanders Show is still in syndication and was a hit in it’s day.
Michael, Larry Sanders immigrated to the UK in 1969 and became a citizen there. He was previously elected as a Green Councilor.
Alabama Independent, I think all but a few Americans know Larry Sanders even exists. Heck about 50% of the American Voters don’t know Bernie Sanders at this point given some of the polling data that’s been posted.
GreenGenes: That will change now that Bernie Sanders has officially announced. Hillary will have to respond to reporters even if she is too scared to appear in debates with Sanders. Let’s hope she slips up somewhere in her comments, and not only Sanders, but the GOP can use it against her. I don’t care for Republicans, but I’d rather have one of them as President than Hillary. If she is elected, together her and Bill will finish destroying this republic.
The Greens (actually three separate but affiliated parties, one in England and Wales, one in Scotland, and one in Northern Ireland) are running for most of the seats in the UK, but are not expected to win more than 2 of them at most (they currently have 1). Larry Sanders is not one of their candidates who is considered to have a chance to win.
Can anyone think of other examples of close relatives who were involved in politics in different countries at the same time?
To answer my own question above: Helle Thorning-Schmidt, the Prime Minister of Denmark, is married to Stephen Kinnock, who was elected to the British Parliament today. So that’s one example.
