According to this commentary published in Troy Media (a Canadian press outlet that provides editorial content to over 1,000 news outlets), the Premier of Prince Edward Island favors setting up a commisison to study proportional representation for the province. Also, the head of the Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island also supports the idea.
Prince Edward Island voted on proportional representation in November, 2005, turning down a proposal similar to New Zealand’s mixed member system by 36% to 64%. It’s a little surprising to see major party leaders bringing up the subject so soon after that. But then the province frequently has very disproportionate election results, which keeps the issue on the front burner.
