Good, pragmatic business sense. When you’re filthy rich you can afford to double the cost of a seat at the table of power after the votes are counted.
I guess this shows that “message” isn’t necessarily what induces wealthy donors to open their checkbooks…and why radical campaign finance reform is required in this country.
