Kentucky Republican Party Will Choose Delegates to National Convention via Caucuses, not Primary

On August 22, the Kentucky Republican Party voted to use March caucuses, instead of the May presidential primary, to choose delegates to the national convention. The decision is a victory for U.S. Senator Rand Paul. See this story. Thanks to Rick Hasen for the link.

  1. I like Rand Paul, and if Donald Trump unexpectedly folds before the major primaries are held, I will vote for Rand Paul.
    However, I do hate it when professional politicians will change the rules for one of their own. This is one reason why people are sick and tired of professional politicians.
    If I lived in Kentucky, and from a fluke in the 2010 elections had won as an Independent for U.S. Senator; and then decided to run for President as an Independent in 2016, you can bet your last dollar the professional politicians in Kentucky would not change the rules for me – an outsider.

  2. Well, technically, the Kentucky legislature refused to allow people to run simultaneously for two offices, so it is the Republican Party that is changing its rules, not the legislators changing anything.

  3. A.I.–you never can tell. They might change the rules for you if you held the cards to them getting re-elected. Politicians know when to change sides.
