North Dakota is the only state without voter registration. According to this op-ed in the Fargo Forum, the city’s daily newspaper, an interim legislative committee is studying whether to set up a system of voter registration. The author seems to favor the idea.
I don’t see why it’s necessary.
Other states should do away with it, like lots of foreign nations have.
Probably all voter registration cards require a National ID Number (SS Number). Is this just another way to keep track of citizens?
I think they should have one with party identification.

Bingo!
Voter registration forms do ask for the last 4 digits of Social Security Numbers (although I am pretty sure that in South Carolina, they still ask for the full SSN), but it is actually not mandatory. They make it appear to be mandatory on the forms, but I have looked into this, and there have already been court cases where it has been ruled at a person does not have to give a Social Security Number, or the last for digits of an SSN, in order to be a registered voter. I even called election offices in a couple of states and I got them to admit to me that SSN’s are not legally required to become a registered voter (I had to go through some hassle with them before they admitted this to me though). They want people to ASSUME that they must provide an SSN, or the last four digits of an SSN, to be registered to vote, and most people do ASSUME this without questioning it.
It is just a way for the government to get more information on people.
