CNN Sets 3.5% Poll Standard for Next Republican Presidential Debate

Republican presidential candidates will debate each other on December 15 in Las Vegas. CNN, the sponsor, said on November 20 that candidates must be at 3.5% nationally in order to qualify. They can also qualify if they are at 4% in either Iowa or New Hampshire.

It is likely that nine Republicans will qualify.

  1. RCP’s averages show 6 candidates qualifying based on their national polls, 5 on Iowa polls, and 9 on New Hampshire polls. Fiorina and Paul are right on the ragged edge- she’s averaging 3.5% nationwide, and they’re both averaging 4 1/4% in New Hampshire. Christie and Kasich would get in only because of New Hampshire, but both are currently well above 4% there.
