December 14 was the deadline for presidential primary candidates in Arizona. Fourteen Republicans qualified; see the list here, from the Secretary of State’s web page. Candidates were put on automatically if they could show they were already on the presidential primary ballot of at least two other states. George Pataki qualified, but Jim Gilmore did not apply, even though he could have easily qualified, because he is on in Florida, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.
Sounds to me like Gilmore is going to drop out after the New Hampshire Primary or shortly thereafter…
How many states allow and/or count write-in votes in the primary?
I assume you mean presidential primaries. California, DC, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oregon, Vermont, Wisconsin. Most states don’t allow them in presidential primaries because in most states the true candidates are running for Delegate. Also there are eleven states that don’t have a presidential primary in 2016.
Thank You! So the states that won’t be holding primaries do they allow write-ins? If so which ones?
I don’t know the rules for the caucus states.
