December 16 was the deadline for candidates running for the vacant U.S. House seat in Ohio’s 8th districts. Twenty candidates filed. See the list here. James J. Condit, Jr., who was the Constitution Party’s nominee for that seat in 2014, filed to run in the Green Party primary.
Green Party? Has he had a change in political beliefs?
It gets weirder. It seems Condit filled to run as a Constitution Party candidate for the special election (i.e., the seat Boehner held) and a Green candidate for the full term (i.e., the one that starts in January 2017). I don’t see how this is legal. The Hamilton Journal-News had a story about this: http://www.journal-news.com/news/news/local-govt-politics/20-submit-petitions-to-make-ballot-in-8th-congress/npmCq/
Very interesting. And the CP isn’t on the Ohio ballot anymore either.
The Butler County Board of Elections website shows Condit filing as a Green candidate for both the special and general election primaries.
Ohio is pretty lenient on candidates switching parties. It is harder for mere voters to switch, since they can only switch by voting in the primary.
I assume that the BOE will not certify the Libertarian candidate, though he could qualify after the Libertarian Party files its qualification petition.
I’m guessing Condit filed as a Green because the CP isn’t on the ballot and the Greens didn’t have any other candidates. But who knows
