Puerto Rico holds a Republican presidential primary on Sunday, March 6. Several weeks ago, the Republican Party put these candidates on the ballot: Bush, Carson, Christie, Cruz, Fiorina, Gilmore, Graham, Huckabee, Jindal, Kasich, Pataki, Paul, Rubio, Santorum, and Trump. Candidates had until January 7 to withdraw. It is not known if any of the candidates who have dropped out have withdrawn. Those candidates are Graham, Jindal, and Pataki. Thanks to Juan Jose Nolla for this news.
On January 21, the ballot positions were chosen for the GOP primary, and they are:
1) Fiorina; 2) Huckabee; 3) Trump; 4) Kasich; 5) Cruz; 6) Rubio; 7) Paul; 8) Christie; 9) Gilmore; 10) Carson; 11) Santorum; 12) Bush.
The other three candidates apparently requested their names removed from the ballot, or the state GOP recognized the fact that they had withdrawn from the race.
Nine of the 12 candidates submitted delegate slates. I do not know which three didn’t. Although I do know that Bush and Carson did submit full slates.
Of the candidates, Bush and Carson are on record fully supporting statehood for Puerto Rico.
