American Shopping Party Qualifies in Hawaii

The American Shopping Party has qualified as a political party in Hawaii. The party is the creation of John Giuffre, author of seven books about economics. See this link. The party seems to desire an end to consumerism and is influenced by ideas from eastern religions.

The Constitution Party and the American Shopping Party are the only two parties that submitted a petition this year. The Democratic, Republican, Libertarian and Green Parties were already on the ballot.

  1. aloha Democracy Chronicles. This is Raghu Giuffre writing in to thank you for your time and sharing about our new political party: American Shopping Party. I was impressed you took the time to take a quick look at my background as inferred by your comments to my ‘influenced by ideas from eastern religions’ and your attempt at finding my political leanings as ‘The party…to desire an end to consumerism.’ This is the exact opposite impression one would get from the name and so once again shows the journalist effort to get behind the fronts of public posture to the actual agenda’s of the players of these different programs. Bravo and thank you. As for myself, the goal is not to end consumerism, but to introduce conscientious consumption. Buying American Made is but the first step to all things of care from buying local, to self sustainability and then on to the other areas of consideration such as fair wages, environmental impacts etc. As your quote says, I’m an ol missionary man. My interest is neither politics nor shopping, but education for conscientious action at the individual level in partnership with tens of millions of others. Hope this offers a better insight for you and maybe even more to your liking. Mahalo from the Big Island. Rg

  3. Aloha Jeff Becker, actually, want to run candidates that have no interest in winning political office but can smarten up the political discourse: teachers, firemen, coaches, moms w small biz, professors. Actually, we thought it would be fun to run one group per election. This election – all teachers. Next election – firemen, the following after that – doctors. etc. Not there to win, but to stir a more meaningful dialogue.

  4. We saw this with Perot and with Nader — people trying to draw attention to their ideas without any hope of being elected. Not that I approve of it, but the race is between Democrat and Republican. In the case of this current race there may be a danger of the Republican candidate winning. That would spell Nationwide and Worldwide disaster. Any effort that might tend, even unintentionally, to give even a single vote to Trump does a dis-service to the Nation. Please withdraw and instead put your efforts into educating people. Thanks, KB

  5. This party is dumb and so is anyone who votes for it lol. Vote libertarian or green if you’re gonna protest, not these idiots.

And to Kevin Brown, there is a zero percent chance that Trump will win Hawaii. We are not a swing state so take your preschool level anti-3rd party logic and keep it to yourself in the future. Your logic is as stupid as the policy positions of the “American Shopping Party.”

  6. I have noticed that some people just simply vote Republican or Democrat and that is fine but we often should look at the Candidates Track record and what have they done for us and what have they have done to Other People. This is not the ARIOSHI DAYS!!! Things Have Changed!

  7. Let’s have the Hypothetical scenario that we elect a POTUS from The Shopping Party ? How are they gonna endorse buy American Made Only when The Hatch Act of 1939 where it say that ethics laws limit government officials from making statements or endorsements of products that would leverage their roles for financial gain in this case American companies will benefits … Also there are anti trust laws , trade laws that govern exports and imports … I think Promoting Buy American Made only. Other countries could retaliate against USA products sold in the European Union , Latin America or Asia and create a boycott against American products …. Do We need a SHOPPING PARTY ?

  8. To hv this ridiculous group/party printed on the ballot is as embarrassing as is the orange monkey who poses as the legitimant potus (not mine). This election is seriour, as the future 4 a healthy state of Hawai’i is at stake.
Making a joke of the election process through the lable of your ‘party’ can induce light-minded (not like-minded) people to waste their vote(s) via frivolity. Your ‘message’ which need be ferretted out, is nowhere close 2 how the label reads. It is making a mockery of our governing process & tries 2 label Hawai’i as uber consumers. Real Hawai’i
peoples/protectors/respectors of the aina are anything but, although ‘recent residents’ who have abused/used/profited can very well wear that label. Kindly rethink your entry & harm it can cause via loss of voting where it matters.

  9. @Kevin Brown and @Anika Loki, I’m confused about how a candidate for District II of the house of representatives could possibly spoil the presidential election.

  10. If U cant win the electoral college dont run just keep shopping lol & that’s whats up.
