U.S. Senator Ben Sasse (R-Nebraska) recently wrote “If Donald Trump becomes the Republican nominee, my expectation is that I will look for some third candidate – a conservative option, a Constitutionalist.” Thanks to Independent Political Report for the link.
I bet he’ll be voting for Johnson if Trump indeed is the nominee; the LP has long ago set itself up as the only viable third-party that would restore all of our U.S. Constitution, including the parts that maintain separation for church & state and stops the various state governments from infringing upon the constitutional and civil-rights of individuals.
Yet another politician committing political harikari as a show of allegiance to the NWO oligarchs. It’s a shame – he had a lot of promise…
Really? If one doesn’t vote for Trump? Then you are for New World Order. Would respectfully suggest that a vote for Trump is not in the best interest of those who cherish the Constitution and individual freedom and right to privacy.
Sasse’s vote is irrelevant.
His status as a young (R) Senator with libertarian/constitutional leanings gives him a megaphone to do good things in the future. But instead of conserving that power to be used for something that matters in the next Congress, he decides to piss it away by saying he won’t vote for the Republican candidate for president if it’s Trump. Ron Paul never made such a dumb pronouncement.
Don, Ron Paul has never endorsed a Republican for President.
AMcC – but Ron Paul never said he would vote for a non-Republican presidential candidate. RP just stayed out of the fray so he could use his political capital in ways that mattered. Sasse just pissed off half of Republican voters. He’ll be lucky to win his primary next time around – he’s already a pariah of the establishment – why give them more ammunition to take him down?
And ponder this – does Sasse actually believe his anti-endorsement will make any difference in who the GOP nominee is? If so, he’s even more naive than most freshman congresscritters.
Crackpot City here.
“AMcC – but Ron Paul never said he would vote for a non-Republican presidential candidate.”
That wasn’t the case for the 2008 elections.
Cody Quirk – you are correct. I had forgotten that he endorsed Chuck Baldwin in 2008. He didn’t make that mistake in 2012.
Now Sasse is now quoted in the NYTimes as saying he will leave the Republican Party if Trump is the nominee. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, Ben.
He should seek the nomination of the Constitution Party.
I rather doubt the GOP will exist for very long if Trump is the nominee.
Ben Sasse,
What you and none of your useless cohorts will ever understand is what your job entails. You are a representative of the people for the people and by the people. And if the MAJORITY support Donald Trump than your JOB is to support him as well. Your ignorant personal position is just that…YOUR opinion. Trump supporters are tired of your politics as usual. If you would have done your jobs and defended this country vs. rolling over and cow towing to the current “King” this country would not be in need of a revolutionary Republican. It staggers me that you cannot comprehend what the people want and you have neither the mentality or work history to tell ANY of us differently. Good riddance to Obama and the rest of you USELESS Republicans!
Also, don’t ever claim to speak for all of Nebraska. You can speak for your grocer, the Jesus freaks at your church and the products of incest you call family. Do not ever claim to speak for me.
Finally, your resistance better turn to acceptance because Donald Trump will be the next President of the United States of America. If you don’t like it pack your bags and leave with Miley Cyrus, Al Sharpton, Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O’Donnel. Bring your Dick sucking partner Mitt Romney too!
