Two presidential candidates seeking the Libertarian Party nomination have already found vice-presidential running mates. The Libertarian Party national convention is May 27-30 in Orlando.
On April 6, Darryl Perry announced that his vice-presidential running mate is Will Coley, of Florida. Coley is a Muslim and is the founder of Muslims 4 Liberty. Coley is thought to be the first Muslim who ever announced a candidacy for either President or Vice-President.
On April 1, John McAfee announced that his vice-presidential running mate is Judd Weiss, of Bel Air, California. Weiss is a long-time Libertarian and a photographer and entrepreneur.
We already have a muslim President
I wonder if either of them are aware the delegates actually select the VP nominee and may or may not follow their advice.
I second the statement of Brian Irving. Candidates for the Presidential nomination are entitled have any preference they want for a running mate, but still have to persuade the convention delegates. If the delegates disagree, the Presidential nominee can resign his/her nomination and the convention process will resume. Just the facts.
Has anyone suggested the candidates read the LP Bylaws and convention rules? If they want to change the long-standing rules, I opine that is picking an unnecessary fight.
I think they’re quite aware of how it works.
Running as a ticket makes a lot of sense. The delegates in Orlando will have the option of adopting or rejecting a recommendation from the Bylaws Committee to change the convention rules, effective from 2020 onwards, to have presidential and vice-presidential candidates run as a ticket.
Historically, our vice-presidential candidates have been an afterthought with little or no vetting. If the change to run as a ticket will be adopted, then presidential candidates will have an incentive to seriously vet their running mates. Similarly, prospective vice-presidential candidates will also have an incentive to vet their running mates, though we haven’t had much problem with that in the past as the delegates have generally done a much better job of vetting our presidential candidates than our vice-presidential candidates.
Abolish all robot party hack extremist caucuses, primaries and conventions.

P.R. and nonpartisan App.V.
Technically, the Republican and Democratic Parties also elect their VP candidates. But it seems so automatic that nobody gives it much thought.

The bylaws change proposed by the insular LP Bylaws Committee to have presidential and vice-presidential candidates run as a ticket would serve to disempower party delegates, effectively forcing them to accept or reject both candidates as a package deal instead of having the power to select the half of a ticket they like and reject the half they don’t.
It is one more small step in transferring power from the party’s grassroots membership, to a smaller group of leaders, the way it is done in the establishment 2-party cartel. If, in a misguided attempt to “beat them at their own game” we become like them, then the cause of freedom loses.
Nietzsche’s advice is worth heeding here: “He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster.” As with the proverbial frog cooked to death in a pot of gradually heating water, the transition into a monstrosity will likely be gradual.
As usual I find myself in complete agreement with Starchild.
