The ballots are out there. We just need a candidate to place his or her name on them.
It’s getting a bit late for this. I don’t think 50 state ballot access is even possible at this late date.
48-state ballot access is. After NC on June 9th, the next deadline isn’t until June 27th
They ought to put Mitt Romney on the ballot in Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Nevada, Wyoming and Montana.
That’s 33 electoral votes in mostly dark red states. Nevada being the only big swing state. But all have big Mormon populations and could be seriously contested by Romney on a budget of only a few million dollars.
The goal being not to win outright, but to force it into the U.S. House.
they need to give it up..all the candidates I have seen them suggest are vanilla!! plain, boring, middle of the road. If they didnt work so hard for years to keep other parties off the ballot, maybe they would have other good choices.
Some people are suggesting that at this point he may just back Johnson.
I’m waiting for warmonger Kristol to call for a military takeover and suspended elections.
Jesus Christ, Bill and his ilk are MORONS! Gary Johnson IS the true alternative to Trump! HELLO?!
Are they trying to go full retard?
The Texas and North Carolina petition deadlines can be overcome in court. In 1988, when the New Alliance Party threatened the North Carolina State Board of Elections with a lawsuit over the early deadline, the Board gave in and waived the deadline for the New Alliance Party. This is documented. It will be difficult for North Carolina to defend its deadline if a big-name presidential candidate sues. As for Texas, the law is absurd on its face. The Texas law says the independent presidential deadline is May 9 but the independent candidate deadline for all other office is June 23. There is no state interest in such a policy.
Two comments:
John Anderson started his independent campaign for President about two months (or a bit more) earlier in 1980. He had campaigned as a Republican for many months before that and had high public name recognition and media coverage when he started his campaign. He was eventually on every state ballot. (Could not find the exact date of his entry into the race as an independent.)
While the Libertarian ticket of two former governors, Johnson and Weld, appears to be superior to the likely Democratic and Republican tickets, the forces of darkness represented by Mr. Kristol want candidates they can control. The “deep state” is a real thing in the United States as much as in Russia or Egypt.
As a life member of the Libertarian Party and current LP candidate for Congress (Colorado 7th CD) my opinions definitely fall into the libertarian part of the political spectrum.
Glenn Beck is an interesting possibility, as well.
There is a lot of chatter about trouble in his media company, The Blaze website and TV network are struggling. His radio show is currently suspended by SiriusXM for some comments he made.
If he were to step away from his role there to run a populist campaign for president he’d dramatically improve his own exposure, and he might be able to seriously contest a Mormon heavy state or two. If the company tanks while he’s away his hand are clean.
First, Kristol should be looking at former NH Senator Gordon Humphrey for president. Second, I believe John Anderson announced his November campaign on April 30, 1980. Third, I read one time that Anderson said he should have skipped most of the south, except for Texas and Florida, to save time and money.
Signature collection for independent presidential candidates could begin on March 2. For independent candidates for all other offices, the beginning date might have been after the primary runoff in late May.
The primary screenout is a rational state interest. Just because you might have done something different does not mean that there is no state interest.
